Our Story
A Legacy of Excellence
Mike Gaines founded MGA Structural Engineers, Inc. in Colorado Springs in 1996 with a handful of talented associates. Having earned his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering with a structural major from the University of Colorado in 1973, he flourished as a design professional and held Professional Registrations in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. Prior to founding MGA, Mike had a successful career at Morgan & Associates, where he served as Vice President and Manager from 1979 to 1996 and was the Engineer of Record for a wide variety of projects, including many buildings that continue to define portions of our community to this day:

-
Colorado Springs Airport
-
Focus on the Family Headquarters Building
-
Robert M. Isaac Municipal Court Building
-
Colorado Springs Police Operations Center
-
Lewis Palmer Middle School
With a career spanning over four decades, Mike was a driving force in shaping the structural engineering landscape of the region through his leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to excellence.
Kevin Roth served as President of MGA from 2016 until his retirement in 2025, more than 29 years after helping Mike found MGA in 1996. Amongst many other landmark projects, Kevin played a key role in bringing MGA’s very first project to reality—the Eagle County Regional Airport in Gypsum, Colorado. This facility continues to serve Colorado’s ski industry and stands as a lasting symbol of MGA’s commitment to structural excellence and community impact.
The legacy of our firm’s founders, and the talented members that have preceded our time, continues to influence MGA’s values and our dedication to excellence in commercial building design.
